Here’s a little snippet of some Steinbeck I read earlier today.. I think you’ll like..

“And this I believe: that the free, exploring mind of the individual human is the most valuable thing in the world. And this I would fight for: the freedom of the mind to take any direction it wishes, un-directed. And this I must fight against: any idea, religon, or government which limits or destroys the individual. This is what I am and what I am about. I can understand why a system built on a pattern must try to destroy the free mind, for that is one thing which can by inspection destroy such a system. Surely, I can understand this, and I hate it and I will fight against it to preserve the one thing that separates us from the uncreative beasts. If the glory can be killed we are lost.”

Yup. I really liked that passage. It’s alot more relevant if you read the paragraphs before it too, talk of how are society has found ways to speed up the world through autonomy… but then he notes that nothing was ever created by two men, creativity lies only in the singular mind… If you have never read East of Eden, do yourself a favor and pick it up. It’s really amazing.

— On a side note, bollox. Bollux on that, bollux on excuses, bollux on false conclusions, and bollux on attitudes. I call bullshit.

—– On a bigger side note, Carol at work was heard to say this when a gentleman ordered two burgers for himself: “Two burga?!? Brack people bary hungary!” (Classic!)
