I’m sooooooooooo sorry you clicked that link and had to see that picture… But I’m writing an essay on these fellows for animal physiology and I figured you’d love to be all grossed out. Basically botfly mommies capture mosquitoes and lay eggs on them, then let them go. The Mosquito eventually bites you, and then eggs hatch on you because your body heat says its time. After that, the larvae burrows in you, and grows by eating your tissues. After its been there for maybe 8-14 weeks, it crawls out through a hole it begins digging, and falls to the ground where it will metamorphose into a big fly, and start the cycle over! The eye pictures are freaking nasty aren’t they? Want to know whats worse? There’s this site on the web detailing a mans experience with two of these things in the scrotum of his penis. Wooohooo!
