It’s been a while since I’ve said much of interest… I’ve had the internet for like, days now, and still I haven’t dropped a massive ‘friend-list’ bomb…maybe I just haven’t felt like writing. 12 hours of lab a week can do that… ugghh.
Over the past week I’ve definitely become better aquainted with this little city. Riding the train and random busses around will fix any confusion you have about city layout. It’s nuts! I’ve put in about 11 applications or so up to this point. I went down the Divisidero today to apply at a resteraunt that I saw showing a ‘help wanted’ sign on Sunday, but now there were signs saying ‘Vacation for 2 weeks, back 10/2/04′ … great! So I walked on Fillmore for a bit, but all the resteraunts seemed a bit to uppity for me right now. The Wharf was kind of a bust…. I think I can get a bussing job at The Rainforest Cafe if it comes down to it though… My best bet so far has been this resteraunt on Broadway that’s still being finished… They needed to hire everything!
As for my weekends, I’ve been eating out to much and having to much fun… On friday we went to the movies (see the movie area farther down for more info) in West Portal, ate a huge amount of pop corn, and walked around Castro thereafter for a while. I’ve learned that missing the train Saturday night sucks, because we had to walk to West Portal from SFSU to get to the movies on time.
On Saturday Milkshakes were purchased in North Beach at this awesome place I like called the Gold Mine i think. The guy there makes me an awesome Chocolate/Vanilla shake that tastes so wrong it’s right. Visited China Town, but ended up going all the way to Clement for Chinese food because it’s just better there. One clay pot of Tilapia, one plate of fried sandab with other fish chunks, BOK CHOY (coolest name ever) and baby corn, and one plate of beef/brock later there was serious stuffage. My goal that by the end of the year, this chinese resteraunt will know me well enough to stop giving me the gringo gesture of a fork. Seriously, I don’t need a fork! Even if I suck with chopsticks and make a huge mess, I’m enjoying the hell out of my little wooden chopsticks, and that’s what counts! We also visited the top of the SFSU Cafeteria/Cesar Chavez Super Complex for some silly fun (actually, this SFSU silliness happened on friday because we rented a movie Saturday night, duh!)
Sunday involved a visit to Coit Tower, which has an awesome view from which Cassidy could probably murder the whole city with a sniper rifle and defend the north bay from a japanese assault (from inside the bay mind you, they’re coming from Berkely!!). But, Coit Tower is really stupid for charging $3 to ride the damn elevator, and not allowing people to use the stairs. Fuck that! I can find better views for free (and we did). North Beach was found again, my 50/50 Chocanilla shake was gotten again, and we eventually found our way by bus to Japan Town. What a nerdy freakin place. People need to take their “fanime” elsewhere, not Japan Town. For dinner we went to Frankie’s Bohemian, which is like the crazy go nuts best bar/grill ever. Besides the overuse of nasty ass garlic on everything (except my food of course), it was funny to see more garlic on fries than any of us have ever seen. Ever. No seriously, wayyyyy to much garlic. After that, we went to Union Square and sat on my favorite balcony for the most insane (better than Coit freakin Tower) view known to man. Back to West Portal for drinks and bam, game over.
Recent Movies:
Napoleon Dynamite was really damn funny. Like, really awesome. He gives me hope for people like myself. Thank god!
The Garden State which we saw in West Portal rocked. I laughed so hard from start to finish. I didn’t really know anything about it before hand, except Natalie Portman was in it. She was awesome!
The Girl Next Door was rented on Saturday, and I really approved of this movie. It was stupid, it was crass, and the heroes reminded me of myself and friends wayyyy to much. Could we really be that bad too? I dunno, but I want that girl to live next door to me damnit!
In essence (not in conclusion mind you), Tillamook Sharp Cheddar Kaysuh-dillos are soooooo good. Thank you.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
At some point we’ll meet up and have fun with chopsticks. My dad used to work in Chinatown so his students invited him to a New Years’ dinner, so I get to go to. So, they put all the kids together regardless of age, so there’s this kid whose language I don’t speak who’s struggling with the chopsticks, so I had fun showing him ways to get it to work with his hands, by the middle of dinner he had it figured out completely.
S.F. can be pretty cheap to eat, but ya have to be careful.
Tcheus.
Cheapest place to get Tillamook in S.F. is Costco.
6 or 7 rather than 12, for two lbs.
My Tillamook comes from the Sonoma County variety of Costco
I have to figure out how to get to the SOMA one by bus, unless 1 is closer?
SoMa it is.
I’ve learned that missing the train Saturday night sucks, because we had to walk to West Portal from SFSU to get to the movies on time.
Doesn’t the train run every 15 minutes on Saturday nights? I would think waiting 15 minutes for it would get you to West Portal faster. West Portal is a pretty long walk from SFSU.
Also, there’s a movie theater in Daly City, right by the BART station, so that’s also an option if you’re looking for a nearby theater.
I got there at 8:05, and next train was at 9! So, walking was actually faster!
I’ll have to check out that Daly City Theatre, sounds cool!
It’s a big chain theater, so it carries a lot of movies and the matinees are about $6. You can take the bus from SFSU to the Daly City BART and use the underground tunnel in the station to walk to the theater.
i was just down in the city last weekend. it was the first time i was there since i moved back up here (santa rosa) 6 months ago. such a beautiful place. i’m hoping to move down there soonly. like in late winter/early spring. i don’t know what it is with me, i move down there, i move back, and now i’m moving down there again. geez.
-jojo (the guy you don’t know that used to live in your town)
haha, i seem to stay put in places… I wonder how long I’m going to stay put here?
japan town is indeed a silly place. there’s a really good (and reasonably cheap) noodle place there, though, if you like noodles (it’s called mifune). also, lots of weird sodas that you would never think existed. and they’re opaque. ??
