Ok, so last night kicked space monkey butt! After work I called a few people, with no luck, and I ended up starting a solo mission to SF about 7:00. I made it just fine, but parking was a serious bitch! I ended up parking at Buena Vista park, which was like 1-2 miles from Market street. The venue, Cafe Du Nord was pretty cool, seemed like a very respectable place. At that point, the solo bit began to suck, just sitting there at a table, but I got over it pretty fast. I have no real problem spending time alone with my thoughts. Once the music started, all was well with the world though. The opening bands were awesome. Charmless played really well, but Oranger was freakin awesome. They were so damn funny, and their songs were very clever. At one point, they made one of their friends come on stage, just to hold a cowbell up for the drummer. The singer kept quoting Saturday Night Live and the Blue Oyster Cult skit with the cowbell, I thought that was freakin awesome! They were very interactive, alot of fun.
Finally, we got the Actionslacks at about 11. They started the night right off with Joan of Arc and Tad Loves Kimberly James, 2 of my more favorite songs. That was awesome. They played tons of new songs from the album, plus most of The Scene’s Out of Sight. It was totally mad-wicked-berzerker-awesome. Yeah. When they played Shining Jewels, they substituted the piano piece for a guitar solo by Chuck Lindo, and that was really cool. He’s a skilled guitarist, I was amazed at how well he could play the bit. They seemed to play on and on and on forever. It was welll worth the money spent!
All I can say is, Actionslacks live is like a million times better than studio Actionslacks! I walked away from that show stunned. I also walked away with a poster and the 2 Cd’s I didn’t have, sold to me for a reasonable $17.
And, I’m happy to say, I made it to my car unmolested, and my car was untouched. Yay! I ended up not stopping at the Prom afterwards, Ben informed me the prom was dead. So yeah. That was my night. I’m relatively proud of myself for pulling off a solo trip. Welp, that’s all for now!
