Well….. Sad News….
Before I went to work today my motehr called to tell me that my Great-Grandfather had passed away, only 3 days after his 99th birthday :-/ . Regretfully I had no time to call in to work and get out of my shift…. I worked the craziest shift I’ve worked in months tonight…. my feet hurt so much now….. I work at 11 also…. I won’t have any time to grieve until tommorow evening….
There’s so much to reflect on concerning my Great-Grandfather….. Ralph Tobener was his name, and he lived 99 years!!!! 99 years!!!! He saw 5 of my lifetimes in order, with years to spare! I’m going to miss him…. He taught me to play chess when I was 10….. he encouraged me to play with Lego’s….. He gave me a car when I was 15……. He encouraged me to live a financially responsible life! He was the ONLY one I knew he legitimately got in a horse-drawn carriage accident, and live through World Wars 1 & 2.
I’m so glad I got to see him on easter…. I’m sure everyone who went was very thankful for that last conversation with him…..
To give you people an idea on the kind of man he was, I’ll leave you with the words he spoke during the little speech he gave during easter…
When asked why he planned on living another year, may Great-Grandfather stated that he had a burning desire to break with his political party and vote our president out of office. This is relatively significant for him since he’s voted republican for many many years… According to him he’s only voted Democrat 4 times, and all those times were for Theodore Roosevelt. I don’t know many people who got the chance to vote for Teddy Roosevelt, do you?
