Alright, so this is about my Short Film English Final Project. Read on pls
I am doing The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien, if you have read this, rock on.
If you haven’t read it, it’s like the Middle Earth Bible, everything that happens in Lord of The Rings happened after the stories in this book, and LOTR refers to them often.
More specifically I’m doing the Story of Feanor.
Feanor creates the Silmarills
Melkor makes people mad.
Feanor gets mad, Melkor wants Silmarils.
Bad things happen, Melkor steals Silmarils.
Feanor rebels and moves his people to Middle Earth
Feanor dies in battle..
Oh, the Silmarils are really special gems to.
So, I’m working on a soundtrack, and I need a bit of advice. I’ve got most of it worked out, but any suggestions would rule. Basically, I need good background music… Oh yes, more modern music, but more obscure than not, I don’t it to be stuff the people in my class have generally heard before
Opening Scenes (Title Screen, Productions and what not) – Blind Guardian – Something (Not sure, undecided here)
Narrations – I have 6 narration scenes, music will be needed. My ideas : 1 Rush song, 1 Mars&Mystre song, 1 VNV Nation, 1 And One, 1 Blind Guardian, 1 Depeche Mode.
Battle Scene – Iced Earth – My Own Saviour (This song is perfect, amazing, excellent, it even fits the storyline)
Death Scene – Actionslacks – Bury me in the Blue Sea (possibly, I wanna slip the slacks in somewhere, this scene might be the best)
Credits – Jane’s Addiction – Sympathy for the Devil (Interview w/vampire had the G&R Version, so in a very interview’esque fashion, I’m slapping in the Jane’s Addiction cover rather than the original version, plus I love jane’s addiction )
Other Ideas –
Bush
Blue Oyster Cult
Vast
Gargbage
Jude
Rammstein
Basically, all my Mp3′s got deleted when I whiped my HD, so all my ideas have come from my cd binder… There are a few things that won’t go in the video like
No Nirvana
No Rage Against the Machine
No Black Sabbath
Most definitely No Metallica
If you have any other bands that might fit in with what I’m looking at, or particular songs by particular bands I chose that you like, list em here

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
What about classical/score?
Mars the bringer of war from Holst’s “The Planets” would be good for the crossing of the Helkaraxse if you are including that – If you are following Feanor, though I suppose not, since the battle was before the rest of the Noldor Host arrived.
Hm.
I’d love to help in any way I can — I am a huge Tolkien geek with over 900 CDs – There has to be something in there.
Also, BTW, have you heard De Meij’s “Lord of the Rings” Symphony?

No I haven’t, as far as Tolkien lore and music goes, I’m a newbie
The story of me is a strange one, I’m a fantasy nerd, I loved the Silmarillion, but I still haven’t read The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings…. According to the laws of nature people like me aren’t supposed to exist. But I have an idea, this might help alot
Here is a breakdown of all the scenes:
Scene #1
Introduction ~ This will be a short narrative, giving vital information on Tolkien’s world, using text from the beggining of the book. It will be spoken by the narrator, with some sort of slide-show esque display on screen.
Scene #2
Feanor Creates the Silmarils ~ In this scene Feanor will be introduced, and the creation of the Silmarils will occur. The purpose and significance of the gems will be explained, as well as their relation to the world at the time.
Scene#3
Narration ~ In this narration Melkor’s deceit and lust for the silmarils will be explained. We will lay forth the plot for the next scene, and show how Feanor became decieved.
Scene #4
Feanor assaults Fingolfin ~ In this scene Feanor will draw his blade on Fingolfin, thinking his brother is betraying him, and for this become banished to middle earth. All the Valar witness this, spelling trouble for Feanor.
Scene #5
Feanor rebukes Melkor ~ Melkor comes to Feanor’s door seeking his help in escaping and
escaping himself. He lusts for the Silmarils, but at their meer mention Feanor becomes jealous and shouts Melkor from his door.
Scene #6
Narration ~ This narration will tell of Melkor and Ungoliant’s destruction of the trees Telperion and Laurelin (of which the light of silmarils came from). His vengeance wrathed upon the Valar even as Feanor was forgiven.
Scene #7
The Valar Confront the Darkness ~ In this scene the Valar speak on the darkness has descended, and request the Silmarils of Feanor to repair the trees, which once again summons his jealousy. He becomes mad and states that if the Silmarils are taken from him he will surely die. Feanor then curses Melkor, giving him the name Morgoth by which he was henceforth called by the Noldor.
Scene #8
Feanor speaks ~ In this scene Feanor adresses his fellow Noldor, beckoning them to join him in coming to Middle Earth to Face Morgoth and leave the Valar behind. Feanor also swears an oath on the fate of the Silmarils that curses him and his house till their demise.
Scene #9
Narration ~ In this narration all that follows with the leaving of the Noldor is explained. The Killing, the splitting of the tribes of the Noldor, and the fate of Feanor and all else.
Scene #10
Feanor’s Death ~ In this scene Feanor’s death is shown. The battle-under-the-stars takes place, and Feanor is killed while rushing orcs by the mightiest of Balrog’s. Feanor is dragged away by his sons, but perishes on the trail, and his body dissapears with the fleeing of his soul. Before his death he makes his sons promise to hold to his oath, thus dooming them all.
Scene #11
Narration ~ In this the final wrap-up will be explained, telling a bit about the fate of the world, the Silmarils, Feanor’s son’s, and the Noldor.
Scene #12
Credits ~ Here all required acreditations will be placed. Thins like the actors, the grips, the monkeys, and so on.\
Scene #10, the battle scene is the one my friends are really excited about, we plan on spending our whole friday filming that scene and scene 7, and it will probably be broken into 2 scenes, the action, and the dramatic death in the arms of his sons. The Action will be the Iced Earth song, because I really like it, but other than that nothing if for sure yet
Classical scores are definitely possible to, as long as they have the right sound. I’m going to spend all of Saturday morning/afternoon, and all of sunday editing and doing music. My goal is to have an extremely well put together project, even if the actual movie looks a wee bit cheesy.
What is the actual movie going to be? Live action? Stop motion? Animation?
The narrations are going to be onscreen text, with pictures, and background music, possibly with voiceover.
The non-narrations are going to be live action, filmed This afternoon, and tommorow afternoon. Sadly, I procrastinated and helped other people with their projects rather than focusing upon my own, so I’m running out of time hehe, I must have my porject completed and turned in Monday morning.
I’ve got a pretty decent script written up, made by hacking up Tolkien’s in book Dialogue, and OH MY, I’m almost late for work!! EEK!! Must go
Wee
I’ll see what I can drege up and slap the mp3s on my server and send you the links.
You’ll be at the computer on Saturday?
My instant messenger contacts are in my info page, I should be online then too.
